HomeExchange is determined to provide a seamless and enjoyable experience for all our members, including those who travel with service animals.
Most of the homes on HomeExchange are private residences and, as such, do not need to comply with regulations like the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Unlike hotels or private rentals, our members are able to decide if they are happy to welcome animals into their homes.
If you do travel with a service animal, we recommend that you:
Inform your host
Make it clear in your opening request that you wish to travel with a service animal. Service animals must be disclosed to the host before the exchange is finalized. As with any exchange, we always recommend that you let your potential host know about who is traveling with you.
Provide details about the animal, such as size, breed, and any specific needs. This will allow your host to prepare their home for everyone who is coming to stay.
Use the search filters
Run a search for the location of your next exchange. Click or tap ""Filters"" to see all the options you have to tailor your search. Towards the bottom of the ""Accessibility"" section, you will see a filter for ""Pets welcome"".
Whilst we know that service animals are more than pets, all the homes resulting from this search will belong to hosts who don’t mind animals in their home. These members are more likely to accommodate you and your service animal. You can search for these homes via our website or our app.
Add information about your service animal to your profile
We recommend writing about your service animal in your ""My profile"" page and in your home’s description. This way, anyone who stumbles upon your home or profile will know what to expect when they send you a request, or when they receive a request from you.
Make sure you reiterate this information to your host before any exchange is finalized, even if your profile includes reference to your service animal.
