You don’t need a licence to exchange your home!
What happened?
The scope of the Short Term Let (STL) legislation in Scotland has been clarified to make it clear that home exchanging is not included in this regulation. Section 3.3 of the Guidance for Hosts & Operators now states that "No licence is required where home-swapping is not in the course of business".
As such, Scottish members can continue to exchange their home without applying for a licence.
This achievement comes as a result of dedicated efforts from our members, team and advisors over the past few months. We are delighted that after constructive dialogue, the Scottish Government now recognises the distinct nature of home exchanging, in comparison to the rental sector.
