When a HomeExchange stay comes to an end, it's crucial that both host and guest take ownership of their respective responsibilities. Here are a couple of points to consider for this post-exchange phase:
1) Do a house check:
Both host and guest have a shared responsibility to carry out a thorough check of the house on departure. This enables the general condition of the home to be assessed, and any potential problems to be resolved. If necessary, you could agree to call in a trusted person (neighbor, family or friends of the host) to support this inspection.
If no one can be with you for this check, we'd encourage you to make a video.
2) Managing cleaning issue conflicts:
In the event of a disagreement about the state of the home, we would urge you to use the "conversation" function on the website or app to have an open discussion with your exchange partner. Understanding the reasons for the disagreement, and seeing if you can find a mutually acceptable solution is always the first step.
If no direct agreement can be reached, HomeExchange can act as mediator to help resolve the conflict. It is important to note that financial solutions will only be considered in the case of actual damage.
Failure to pay the cleaning fees:
If cleaning costs are indicated in the listing and have been agreed with the guest before the exchange is finalized, it is the guest's responsibility to ensure that they are paid.
If this is not the case, HomeExchange reserves the right to contact the guest as a mediator and ultimately can apply sanctions to their account.
